Bob Leatherbarrow is one of the true pioneers of fused glass. For many years, he traveled world-wide teaching both basic and advanced "crackle" techniques for creating stunning and distinctive patterns and textures in fused glass. Recently Bob dramatically reduced his teaching schedule and no longer offers classes outside of very limited offerings in Canada and Europe. That leaves many glass artists unable to attend in-person instruction on Bob's acclaimed techniques.
That changes in 2017 when just two studios, Helios and AAE Glass, become the only facilities that Bob has authorized to teach his acclaimed techniques.
In this 5 day master class, students will learn the full range of Bob Leatherbarrow's powder techniques:
- Wafer techniques for creating positionable design elements
- Basic powder crackle methods, including multiple variations for controlling surface and vein coloring
- Advanced powder crackle techniques for oriented (controlled) vein patterning
- More advanced variations for achieving controlled pebble textures
Students will make a number of small bowls and other objects while mastering the use of powder across this full array of techniques.
All participants will receive electronic copies of Bob's two books on kilnformed glass powders.
Basic fusing experience is required.
