Oregon Public Broadcasting calls Linda Ethier "one of the pioneers of glass fusion" and with good reason. Linda
has been casting glass since the late 1960s and both Linda and her work appear in Boyce Lundstrom's original books on glass fusing.
No resume, though, can speak to an artist's capabilities as convincingly as their work. Linda's beautiful,
evocactive, and technically stunning cast glass sculptures tell you instantly that she is a true master.
Class Description
This class will cover all essential techniques for kiln casting glass. Participants will gain hands-on experience with both
open and closed molds. More advanced techniques will be fully demonstrated. Students are encouraged to bring their own designs
for process review.
Techniques covered:
- clay and wax modeling
- open molds
- lost wax for glass casting
- rubber molds (demo)
- closed molds for fully dimensional work
- glass and packing molds
- firing schedules and theory
- finishing / cold working (demo)
In addition to the considerable hands-on work (students will complete two cast pieces), Linda will demonstrate several
additional techniques including rubber mold making, sculptural cold-working, and box-casting.
