“Beginnings” speaks to many perspectives of this show.

5,000 years ago, glass began to be manipulated through a fused glass technique called solid core forming. Then it was mostly forgotten. Millennia later, only in the 1960s & 70s, did “fusing” as its own area of study begin to be broadly accessible to the art community. It began again after being nearly forgotten for over 2,000 years. Current fusers are not only rediscovering fusing techniques from thousands of years ago, they are creating and learning entirely new techniques. This moment in fusing history is just beginning, is gaining momentum, and deserves to be shared through this public exhibition.

This show brings together examples of many fusing techniques in order to celebrate the vastness of fusing as an art form. It also brings together the vastness of artists in our state. We are the current bearers of this art form, and there is mighty identity in that. With this show, we represent the work of home artists, private studio artists, and artists from public studios that are currently upholding our shared love of glass fusing.
