2024 Fused Glass Exhibit of Texas Artsits

JOURNEYS : Stories in Fused Glass

October 5 - November 17, 2024

Juried by Richard Parrish & Julie Verville

at Artworks, 6th Street, Austin, TX

Submissions deadline: August 1, 2024

  • This year will showcase the various journeys fused glass artists have been on in their lives and in their art.

“Journeys” speaks to how your skill and voice have evolved over time. From ideas and techniques you pick up that speak to a particular season of your life to moments of disappointment or triumph. A journey is not just travel and adventure, but self-discovery and processes we endure or witness.

The prevalent material in your piece must be fused glass. Though, you can incorporate any combination of fused glass with other materials and techniques. One or multiple techniques can be used in creating each piece. In this exhibit we want to showcase as many techniques as possible in order to educate the general public about the broad potential of glass fusing.

    • Submissions due by Aug 1

    • Judging will take place Aug 2 - Aug 31

    • Announcements of accepted entries on Sun, Sept 1

    • Accepted pieces due at Helios by Sept 30 or call to arrange in person drop off at Artworks on Thursday, Oct 3

    • Opening party Sat, Oct 5

    • Show Dates: October 5 - November 16

    • Austin Studio Tour Dates: tbd

    • This is an open art call to fused glass artists who work in Texas. You must have a private studio, home studio, or work out of a public studio in Texas.

    • Fused glass must be the prominent medium of your submission. Mixed media can be included, but the glass needs to be the main element of the piece. Kilnwork is key here in order to educate about this art form.

    • You may submit multiple pieces.

    • There is no limit on the age of the work submitted.

    • If submitting a free standing piece, please include a stand. A pedestal will be provided for the show.

    • If submitting a wall piece, you must include hardware attached and ready to hang.

    • Submitted images may be used for promotional materials of the exhibit.

    • 50% of the cost of your sold piece goes to the artist. 40% commission will go to Artworks Gallery and 10% commission will be given to Helios Fused Glass Studio.

    Tips for a great submission

    • Your piece will be judged by the pictures you submit. You can include 3 photos per piece. Take multiple angles in good lighting on a plain black or white background.

    • Your artist statement and piece description are also important factors considered during the judging process.

    For selected exhibit participants

    • Once selected, you will have a 3 week window to get your piece to Helios Fused Glass Studio in Austin, TX. You can deliver it in person or by mail. We won’t be able to accept submissions that require a crate to move or ship. You are responsible for delivering your piece safely. We’re responsible for it after that, including transportation to the Artworks gallery, installation of your piece, and packaging your piece for its buyer.

    • If mailing a piece, please include a return label with paid postage so we can return it to you. If your piece sells during the show, the unused postage can be refunded by the post office.

    • Once sold, a check will be mailed to you within two weeks after the end of the show.

    • If your piece does not sell you are responsible for picking it up at the end of the show, unless a return label is included.

    • Pieces that are not picked up by Dec 7, 2024 will become property of Helios Fused Glass Studio.

    • End of show details and instructions on pick-up details will be e-mailed a week before the end of the show.

    ___

After filtering submissions for completeness and appropriateness for this exhibit, our judges will rate each submission. Top rated submissions will be narrowed down further to account for exhibit space and to include representation of a variety of techniques in the final show.

Each year we invite artists from both outside and within the fused glass community to be our judges. Judges are excluded from submitting work.
