“I had the most fun in Malina's Designing with Powder Wafers. Malina is very patient and knowledgeable and all with a huge smile and contagious energy. I learned so much and think that, for now, this is definitely my favorite technique. I do have to add that it is technique sensitive, but very rewarding. There's so much more to it. The possibilities are endless.” - Tami Rauch
“The Powder Wafer class is great fun learning a technique with endless possibilities. Malina is a warm and supportive instructor who takes a continued interest in her students even after the class ends. I highly recommend it.” - Beth Weinstein
”Malina guided us in a good way without telling us what to do. As a beginner, she made sure I did things the right way. She guided me, and that's what made my piece great. she was able to make us feel safe with the process. Her process was very clear. She was organized with lots of samples and examples.” - Amelia
“I was fortunate to be able to take Malina Cipleu’s powder wafer class, and this opened an entirely new area of glass fun for me. The wafers are super fun to make and very delicate.” - Tanya
ABOUT MALINA
Malina Cipleu is an Austin-based artist born and raised in Transylvania, the Northwest region of Romania. For the last 10 years, working primarily with fused glass, polymer clay, and sterling silver, she’s been creating a wide range of work from functional objects, to fine art, to jewelry.
Her work responds to an intuitive search for harmony and balance, inspired by rhythm, beauty, and impermanence in the natural or manufactured world. With all their colors and emotions, these attributes stay with her subconsciously and eventually surface in her art in an abstract manner.
Her fused glass journey includes classes with Paul Tarlow, Kari Minnick, Bob Leatherbarrow, Richard Parish, Morgan Madison, Linda Ethier, Alicia Lomne, Kristine Schafer, and over a decade of personal research and experimentation.
Malina’s work has been juried into several fine art shows, including West and East Austin Studio Tours and the Art Center - Highland Park, IL. Several local Texas art galleries have sold her pieces. Both national and international private collectors have also commissioned her. This Fall, Malina was invited to participate in the kiln-glass residency at Pilchuck School of Glass.
