A five-day exploratory course, with Catherine LIVE offering students the opportunity to expand their kiln-forming skill-set through her exciting pattern-making process for glass. You will make a series of experimental patterned panels, utilizing variations of this process as well as creating a drop out vessel. You will create your own Silkemat drop out mould, giving you the versatility to vary the shape of the rim of your vessel/s from the traditional circle and square.

This course will provide opportunities for students to gain a deeper understanding of approaches to colour and how molten glass behaves in the kiln. The colour blooming process allows you to create 3D patterns that resemble kaleidoscopic transitions, and you will learn how to best display their beauty through forming them into shape. You will gain a thorough understanding of the colour blooming process, as well as the technical knowledge needed to continue making your own re-useable drop out moulds. Catherine will also show you how to coldwork your vessels by hand at home or using Helios’s exceptional coldworking studio.

This course is suitable for students who are completely new to colour blooming, but also offers those who are currently using Catherine’s e-book the opportunity to be guided and challenged to taking a more complex approach.

Some experience of glass fusing and sheet glass cutting is essential.

Students will receive a free copy of Catherine’s e-book ‘Colour Blooming – A pattern making process for glass’.

This is a LIVE FROM AFAR class.

Each session will consist of discussions, demonstrations, and exercises in the Helios Studio that Catherine will oversee and provide individual guidance from her home studio in England. She wioll be present and interacting with you individually the entire day while you work! Each student will also have a personal device connecting Catherine to their station so she can follow your individual work as you work, providing guidance and tips in real time.
