8 students maximum

Capitalizing on the ways glass can be arranged in and flows from a crucible, students in this innovative workshop will learn to create reproducible decorative cane and murrine using the Vitrigraph Kiln. These elements will then, immediately, be used to explore the dropout method of slumping glass. Students will learn the basics of using the Vitrigraph kiln and will create two finished dropout vessels during class. From circles to ovals, to triads, a variety of dropout forms will be explored. The only prerequisite is the ability to confidently cut sheet glass and a willingness to be challenged. All materials and supplies are included. All skill levels are welcome. Only eight students in this exclusive class.

Details:

  • Teams of 2 students work together to load and pull 1 pot of murrine. They will then share the murrine to make two dropout blanks each that will eventually be used in the dropout process.

  • Rim removal and coldworking are an important aspect of this workshop.
