Coral
by Alice Roberts
10" x 10" x 10"
This piece reflects my love of fish and marine life. My path as a biologist was almost a path as a marine biologist. I think that is why so many of my pieces are fish or ocean related. This one shows the relationship between the coral and the colorful fish who live within it.
Artist Statement:
For years I collected fused glass pieces. Then in the spring of 2021 I went to a fused glass workshop given by one of my favorite glass/mosaic artists, Aly Winningham. It was a simple project, making fused glass magnets, but we learned the basics of cutting, grinding . . . Suddenly, I realized I could possibly create the glass art I had been collecting. Then, I discovered Helios and I haven't stopped since. I've taken a variety of classes with the incredible teachers at Helios to continually learn new techniques and participated in workshops given my Morgan Madison and Nathan Sandberg . As a former chemistry teacher, I'm always trying to make the connection between the chemistry and physics of the class and how it behaves. Creating glass art is my happy place!
