Sunset

by Alice Roberts

10 x 10 x 0.25

There is an artist I love who does incredible scenes with vibrant colors in straight lines. There was a piece with the road going into the sunset with bright pinks and oranges that I particularly loved.  After taking a strips class I realized the image could work as a fused glass piece. I used transparent glass that shows the transparent colors a sunset can have.

Artist Statement:

For years I collected fused glass pieces.  Then in the spring of 2021 I went to a fused glass workshop given by one of my favorite glass/mosaic artists, Aly Winningham. It was a simple project, making fused glass magnets, but we learned the basics of cutting, grinding . . .  Suddenly, I realized I could possibly create the glass art I had been collecting.  Then, I discovered Helios and I haven't stopped since.  I've taken a variety of classes with the incredible teachers at Helios to continually learn new techniques and participated in workshops given my Morgan Madison and Nathan Sandberg . As a former chemistry teacher, I'm always trying to make the connection between the chemistry and physics of the class and how it behaves. Creating glass art is my happy place!
