“Journeys” speaks to the experiences of modern glass artists in their lives and their art, how their skill and voice have evolved. A journey is not just travel and adventure but also self-discovery and the processes of time. We artists stand witness to these stories.

5,000 years ago, glass began to be manipulated through a fused glass technique called solid core forming, a form of casting. From there glass artists played with and discovered countless ways to manipulate this mesmerizing material. Fusing refers to bringing glass together to create a solid piece through using a kiln. These artists are also known as kilnformers.

This show is the largest public display of kilnforming know-how in the state. 40 pieces were selected for this exhibition representing 23 artist from across Texas. You will see ancient techniques applied to modern ideas and explore each artist’s unique story behind their creation. You’ll see everything from ancient pate de verre to modern glass-under-pressure techniques and glass powder play to skillful stretching and shaping. The skills represented here are as varied as the artists’ stories behind them. Enjoy the journey.
